Resource Recovery Gippsland – Transitioning To Recycling Victoria July 1
An update from RRG Executive Officer – Matthew Peake
Recycling Victoria (RV), a new business unit in the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), will be established on 1 July 2022 and all seven of Victoria’s waste and resource recovery groups will be transferring over.
RV’s primary purpose is to provide leadership, stewardship and oversight of waste, recycling or resource recovery services and to support the development of a circular economy.
PREPARING FOR TRANSITION
All WRRGs (including Resource Recovery Gippsland) are currently involved in a transition process in preparation for July 1 and both the Resource Recovery Gippsland board and I are pleased that all staff will transfer over in their current roles and continue to support the delivery of waste management and recycling services that industry, local government and communities rely on.
In particular, RV will continue to oversee and build capacity for municipal service delivery and support best practice procurement by councils and service providers, and best practice services, systems, facilities, infrastructure and technology associated with waste, recycling and resource recovery. The transfer of WRRGs to RV means that RV will retain a strong regional presence, experience and expertise.
In a recent state government newsletter regarding RV, it was emphasised that our presence in, and service to, Gippsland is highly valued and will continue.
GIPPSWIDE KERBSIDE PROJECT
As a priority project of state government, the Gippswide Kerbside Collaborative Procurement project goes from strength to strength with the commitment of ourselves and Gippsland’s six shire councils.
Our transfer over to RV will not alter the project’s progress nor its remit. Alison Taylor and her team are forging ahead to ensure a seamless transition come July 1.
KEEPING OUR STAKEHOLDERS UP TO DATE
We will continue to operate with a hybrid workplace approach, maintaining our office location in Trafalgar.
As of July 1 we will transition over to DELWP systems and, as information becomes available, we will keep stakeholders up to date regarding any changes to email addresses and contact numbers.
It is intended that staff mobile phone numbers will be maintained.
We look forward to continuing our work with you in Gippsland as Recycling Victoria.
