ResourceSmart Schools Gippsland is a great sustainability program for schools and it has a thriving and innovative community that is keen to share, nurture and grow.
Sustainability is one of three cross-curriculum priorities in the Victorian Curriculum F-10 and ResourceSmart Schools can help you integrate it across your school’s curriculum, culture and community.
Sustainability education develops the knowledge, skills, values attitudes and behaviours that enable students to contribute to a more sustainable way of life at school, home and in the broader world.
ResourceSmart Schools Modules
To assist schools with their sustainability goals, and for them to progress toward sustainability certification, a range of resources are available to help progress through each of five modules.
The Core module assists to evaluate where each school is and where it wants to get to, and how it will get there.
The Biodiversity module helps schools to protect and improve the land (school grounds and surrounds), the local ecosystem, and plant and animal habitats.
The Energy module helps your school reduce energy use and save on bills. Schools work on energy conservation, energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gases and improving air quality.
The Waste module helps schools minimise waste sent to landfill through the operational practices of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’, and save on bills. In addition to saving money, there are many social and environmental advantages to reducing waste consumption, such as minimising our impact on the environment.
When students understand where water comes from and the processes involved in getting water to the school, they will better understand how precious it is and how best to use it. The Water module assists schools to reduce water use and save on bills.
ResourceSmart Networking
Your local facilitator can help your ResourceSmart School connect with other ResourceSmart schools in your region or field of interest. It’s a great way to swap ideas, learn from others, share resources and network.
