New Recycling Laws And Governance – transitioning to Recycling Victoria

The Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Bill 2021 passed through the Legislative Council on Thursday 2 December and then become an Act after receiving Royal Assent on 14 December.
Under the new legislation Resource Recovery Gippsland, along with the state’s other six regional waste and resource recovery groups will transition to Recycling Victoria which will be established as a business unit within the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) from 1 July 2022.
Recycling Victoria will deliver statewide stewardship, planning, regulatory and market oversight functions, and have a strong regional focus.
Over the coming months, DELWP will provide further information on any public consultation on regulatory impact statement(s) for initial regulations under the new legislation.
